The island of Tenerife is a great place to visit and is a popular holiday destination for both English and German tourists every year. Spanish nationals from the peninsula also visit its shores in the Easter and summertime to take advantage of its exotic fauna and flora, lush forests, volcanoes and fantastic shore lines and beaches.
For the younger generation the island is simply packed with bars and nightclubs to keep you entertained to the early hours of the morning. Restaurants are in abundance and a whole range of cuisines can be chosen from. For family day outs there are a number of water parks, zoo’s and museums to keep you amused.
Although the island of Tenerife was a poor banana growing region in past decades, since the introduction of air travel the islands tourism industry has soared. Puerto de la Cruz is most popular with couples and older visitors whereas the younger generation tend to hang out in the south of the island.
The weather in the east fluctuates slightly more and offers a more springtime feel and although as hot as the south is a far more pleasant environment. The tallest peak of the island is the dormant Mount Teide volcano which stands over 3718 metres above sea level and although day trips were allowed, over recent years these have stopped due to safety reasons.
Both tobacco and alcohol are cheap on the island than elsewhere in Europe as the island remains outside the EU for customs and VAT and eating out will also work out far cheaper than in other parts of Europe.
Due to the increase in tourism, many housing developments have been constructed along with a host of hotels and apartments. Private villa’s are also available for rent and there is an abundance of Golf Course’s now available also with privately owned villas for large family party accommodation.
