The third largest of the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria is located 130 miles from the African coast and offers some fantastic scenery and beaches along with superb all year round sunshine.
A popular holiday destination resort is Playa del Ingles which caters for both German and English tourists all year round. Here you will find beaches that run for literally kilometres and a wide range of water sports and activities to keep people of all ages amused. Nightlife in this resort is second to none with various ‘centres’ hosting a wide range of late night bars and clubs. Cabaret shows can also be found all over the resort.
Further around the coast is the holiday resort of Puerto Rico which is situated in a large valley. A shopping centre houses all bars, restaurants and nightclubs so everything is close together. The beaches in this resort are man made and are a safe haven for a spot of sunbathing and host a variety of water activities including banana boat rides, jet skiing and scuba diving.
Puerto Mogan, also known as Little Venice, is a breathtakingly beautiful resort just outside of Puerto Rico. This small, typically Canarian fishing village is a popular holiday spot for people from all over the world and provides a stunning harbour and an abundance of restaurants and bars. The village is packed with quaint little streets and a host of cafes and shops selling island souvenirs.
Other holiday hot spots include Maspalomas, San Agustin and Melonaras and accommodation in most of the resorts is either self catering apartments or hotels.
The mountains in Gran Canaria are a must see and although a hair raising ride in some spots the views are simply breathtaking. Various view points provide refreshments or picnic areas and facilities for camping and many rural hotels or bed and breakfasts provide overnight accommodation.
