Fuerteventura’s Caleta de Fuste, in the Canary Islands, is located close to the airport and is a fairly new town and holiday destination. Caleta de Fuste boasts many facilities to keep you and the kids occupied and most of these are featured within these pages.
Caleta has been around for about 10-15 years, before that it was a coastal, er…coast. Not much happening at all, but now it is a thriving community with child-safe beaches, and their various water and sand based activities, as well as bars, restaurants, tours, cruises, coastal walks plus much much more. They say it never rains in Fuerteventura, they also say its 365 days of sunshine; I don’t quite hold with that nonsense, I have been here for five years and I can remember it raining on one occasion, a Thursday I think. Caleta de Fuste has much to offer you as a tourist. The Canary Islands, Fuerteventura, and in particular Caleta de Fuste, should be a destination for everyone at some point, make it yours this year.
But what can you do here? Well, there’s quite a bit. A lot of it is family-based stuff, and is ideal for those that aren’t too keen on cl of family things and stuff for those that aren’t bothered about clubs. Yuck etc. There are a ton of bars and restaurants ranging from traditional Spanish Tapas Bars to numerous Chinese, Indian, English and Italian, and a whole load in between as well.
There’s water based stuff like jet-skiis and boat trips. Plus you can whale watch, go on snorkeling trips, there’s a dive centre, a windsurfing school, pedalo’s and loads more I can’t think of – not very professional I know. As well as all this, the beaches are 100% child friendly and safe, and there are no annoying shelves in the water where you can plummet downwards after four feet of paddling.
For you landluvvers there’s trike and car and bike tours, you can hire all of the following: bikes, quads, cycles and car. Plus you can spoil yourself with beauty salons, massage therapy treatments, a few supermarkets, a creche for small people. Or you can grab some disabled scooter hire or brag about your holiday in an internet cafe, plus there’s wifi throughout the town. Or you can simply sit on the beach whilst pointing and laughing at your family and friends doing all this active stuff in the water. The choice is yours.
Many of the hotels have pools, as do most of the apartment complexes you’ll be staying in, these are pretty cool, but the laws are a little lax here as there are no lifeguards. Many of the bars with sexier pools are usually okay with non guests using them, just remember to buy the odd drink, and try not to vomit in the pool.
Caleta is pretty flat apart from Chipmunk Mountain (Its hardly a mountain, but you get the idea). You can walk up it easily enough or its a few euros in a cab. Its worth it as there are some bars up there, and the walk is very gently.
If you decide that Caleta is for you, then we look forward to seeing you very soon, bring your sunscreen and your good time trousers. We may not be like the other Canary islands, but once you try us, I am sure you will come back time and time again.
Flights are pretty cheap, and you can get here in 4 hours from the UK and Ireland, and 2 from Madrid or Germany. There are many more destinations on the horizon, and we hope to be welcoming other nationalities very shortly.
Another bonus is, you can get Duty Free here as we are not part of the main EU, due to our distance from mainland Europe. Very exciting eh.
See you very very soon.
We also have a blog on Caleta de Fuste, this contains stuff about the town, and some nonsense from me as well.
